About Stal Mareille
Engbers

In 2006 we have  bought our first horse. Uneloma (by Numero Uno) was just 5 years old at the time. I myself had finally turned 12 years old and I was allowed to make the switch from ponies to horses. Inexperienced that Uneloma and I were both did not detract from the opportunities this horse could offer us. Her unprecedented ability and a heart of gold did not go unnoticed. Week in, week out she caught the attention and this left us wanting more. Thus began our search for the roots of Uneloma.

We came into contact with the Bodet family in Dronten, the breeders of Uneloma. Uneloma was the first foal out of their  broodmare Peloma (by Animo). In 2007  we got  the chance to buy Peloma, in foal to Indoctro  and to take over the then 2.5 year old Zenaloma (by Sam R).

In the summer of 2008, our first own breeding product from the Loma line was born. Diamondloma (by Numero Uno) is the full brother of Uneloma. At the foal inspection in Drenthe  the foal immediately caught the eye of the assessment committee. A well-developed foal with a beautiful appearance. Afterwards we were approached by one of the judges to draw our attention to the grandmother of our foal. Leloma (v. Voltaire) was only a few kilometers away from a retired breeder.

We had to experience for ourselves that happiness and unhappiness are close together when our beautiful black mare Peloma passed away a year later. Complications after the birth of Eastern-Loma (by Corland) meant that we lost our mare and the foal had to be bottle fed. Our belief in the power of this line is great. So we contacted the owner of Peloma's mother Leloma, the retired breeder we were drawn to the previous summer. This enabled us to purchase Leloma in foal from Advance in 2010.

In 2011, I myself had a traffic accident while on my way to school by bicycle. My parents always drew my attention to the importance of a good education before a choice was made to continue in horses. Due to the accident, the horses and my HBO study were temporarily put on hold. Together with my parents we decided to withdraw the mares Uneloma and Zenaloma from the sport and to use them for breeding. My disappointment was great at the time, as both horses had grown up to 1.40m from an early age. I had just made my junior international competition debut and then the sport stopped. It was only years later that I realized how grateful I could be for this situation. I am now back in the saddle and our breeding has grown even further with the addition of these special broodmares. As a result, we have access to young, high-quality jumping horses every year.

In addition to our own breeding farm, we occasionally buy promising young mares between the ages of 0 and 2 years. These mares are used for breeding as 3 and 4 year olds and later sold as sport horses. The mare Delphi (by Eurocommerce Zurich) is an example of the horses that we bought as a yearling. Delphi is currently performing at 1.45m level under Laurent Goffinet (FRA).

In the years 2006 until now, our knowledge and passion for sport and breeding has grown into the stable we are today. The majority of our sport horses are sold at competitions after thorough training. However, not all sport horses are for sale. Our mares are the heart of our stable. For this reason, after a proven sport career, some of our mares are used in breeding, after which they can enjoy their old age in freedom.

How hobby and hobby grows into sports stable and breeding

Mission and vision

On a small scale, we are engaged in breeding and training high-quality young jumping horses. Our goal is  breeding a healthy, thorough jumping horse with a functional appearance and a fine character.

The dam line forms the basis for breeding a healthy, high-quality jumping horse. Our focus is mainly on breeding mares from the Loma line. The qualities of this tribe are once again emphasized when the tribe is declared the best jumping tribe in the world in 2006 / 2007! In addition, our mares have various predicates, such as keur, preferent, sport and performance predicates. The predicates 'sport' and 'performance' have the most value for us as breeders. The sport predicate stands for the proven sport performance of the mare itself and the predicate 'performance' for the proven high sport performance of various offspring of the mare.

In our view, to arrive at a good stallion choice, our mares and the offspring are critically examined. Since the mare is almost completely recognizable in her foals, we look for characteristics that can be improved and are therefore strongly represented by the stallion. In addition, a selection is made to choose only those stallions that have already proven themselves in the sport, and/or come from a proven dam line. Through this critical view we try to achieve our goal in breeding.
